About Us
North Haven Tax & Advisory
Susan and Andrea were born in Canada and spent part of their early childhood in Oman in the Middle East before immigrating to the United States with their parents—a place they have intentionally chosen as home and where they have built their lives and careers.
Their Dutch heritage is deeply meaningful and is central to the story behind North Haven. Their journey began generations earlier, when their mother immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands at just nine years old with her family in search of new opportunities. That courageous step set the foundation for a family rooted in resilience, adaptability, and trust—values that continue to guide Susan and Andrea today.
The name North Haven reflects this legacy. North honors their Canadian beginnings and the steady direction that has shaped their path, while Haven—meaning “port” or “harbor” in Dutch and “a safe place” in English—embodies the firm’s purpose: to be a trusted refuge where clients feel secure, understood, and confident in their financial decisions.

I live in the vibrant community of Pella, Iowa, with my husband, Aaron. We have three grown children. Our oldest, Abbi, is married to Jack and also lives in Pella. Alivia, a junior, and Xander, a freshman, are students at Central College in Pella studying chemistry and actuarial science, respectively.
I graduated from Central College with a Bachelor of Arts in piano performance, only to discover my calling in helping others in different ways. I went directly to nursing school and worked as a registered nurse for seven years. Eventually, my passion for numbers and problem-solving led me back to school for accounting, a field where I could combine my care for people with expertise in finance.
Since beginning my accounting career in 2014, I have developed extensive expertise in tax preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping, business consulting, and controller functions. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), I am committed to guiding individuals and businesses toward their financial goals through accurate reporting, strategic planning, and practical financial advice. Building strong client relationships and delivering tailored solutions to complex financial challenges are at the heart of my practice. My professional journey—from nursing and teaching to business consulting—reflects my enduring passion for serving others and helping them succeed.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me running (when my body allows), working out, tackling puzzles, dabbling in DIY projects, or enjoying quality time with family and friends.

I am a bookkeeping and tax professional based in Nashville, Tennessee, where I live with my husband. In 2022, we relocated from the south Chicagoland area to Tennessee for its lower taxes, strong small-business climate, and family. We have two grown children, Nathan and Ben, who also live in Nashville—Nathan works in the music touring industry, and Ben is an accountant.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Central College. My professional background began in education, teaching middle school English and social studies in Indiana, then Illinois. That foundation strengthened my ability to explain complex information clearly, stay highly organized, and work with accuracy—skills that translate directly into financial work.
In 2006, my husband and I opened an audio services company, and I became responsible for the bookkeeping and financial management. Through this hands-on experience, I gained a practical understanding of the challenges small business owners face. To deepen my expertise, I returned to college to earn an accounting certificate.
Since 2010, I have provided bookkeeping services for small businesses, helping clients maintain accurate records, stay compliant, and make informed financial decisions. In 2025, I earned the Enrolled Agent credential, allowing me to offer expanded tax services and represent clients before the IRS. I am committed to providing dependable, detail-oriented support so business owners can focus on running and growing their companies with confidence.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, solving puzzles, baking sourdough bread, and spending time with family and friends.
